Contaminated Land Phase 1 and Phase 2 Surveys We provide contaminated land phase 1 desktop survey risk assessments in accordance Section 2 of BS:5930 (BSI, 2015), BS:10175 (BSI, 2013) and guidance on land contamination risk management (LCRM). Our approach includes:
Assessing the environmental setting Identifying potential sources of contamination Identifying viable pathways Identifying receptors Formulating a conceptual model Assessing information to inform likely source-pathway-receptor relationships Evaluating risk. A Phase 2 contaminated land survey typically involves intrusive ground investigation works such as the excavation and sampling of trial pits and boreholes. Often soil and groundwater samples need to be taken and sent to a laboratory for chemical analysis, using accredited techniques. Soil gas monitoring for methane, carbon dioxide and oxygen is typically required. The objective is to confirm if the land has been affected by ground contamination and whether there are any significant risks to human health or the environment.
We are able to advise on Phase 2 contaminated land surveys to support investigations of potential environmental liabilities, an Environmental Permit application or to discharge the Conditions of a Planning Permission. Our work is carried out in accordance with ‘Land Contamination Risk Management (LCRM)’ guidance and BS 10175 BS 10175 ’Investigation of Potentially Contaminated Sites. Code of Practice.’
